FAQs for Copper Jewelry:
Things you want to know about your copper jewelry:
~This jewelry is not recommended for children under the age of 13.
~Copper tarnishes (darkens) naturally over time, but this happens faster when exposed to air. I speed up the process so it darkens evenly and gives more depth to the woven designs.
~I use 100% pure copper wire that’s sourced from the USA unless specified otherwise in an individual listing. Pure copper is nickel and lead free.
~Avoid getting it wet. It turns green if not properly dried.
~Copper might turn your skin green if you sweat a lot or have a high acidity level in your body.
~I’ve taken extra care to make sure that your jewelry is secure and smooth with everything anchored properly. This means it shouldn’t pinch or scratch you or get caught or tangled in your hair (in general).
General care and cleaning for your copper jewelry:
~Store in an airtight container or bag when not wearing to slow down tarnishing
~For a quick clean, wipe with a polishing cloth or polishing pad. (I provide one with your purchase.)
~For a deeper clean, put a little Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, or lemon juice in a bowl and add your copper jewelry. Swish (or move) the piece around for a few seconds to get the piece looking like you want it. (It’s important to note that if you leave it in too long you’ll end up with a bright copper piece, but it’ll darken again over time.) Rinse the piece thoroughly with cold water to get the stuff off and gently and completely pat dry with a soft towel. Let it dry completely and then store in an airtight container until you’re ready to wear it again.
Things you want to avoid with your copper jewelry:
~Water/moisture…no showering, swimming, exercising, sweating, putting it in your mouth, washing dishes, cleaning, etc
~Applying lotion, perfume, hairspray, gel, etc to yourself while wearing it
~Applying harsh chemicals or cleaners to the piece of jewelry
~Bending or pulling on the wires or piece in general
~Putting it in your mouth or chewing on it
Other things you might want to know:
~Every piece of jewelry is handcrafted by me.
~Most every piece in the “Exceptional Elegance” line is one of a kind. Each one is a “labor of love” and can take anywhere from 5-20 hours to make depending upon how complex it is.
~The materials of the beads and cabochons I turn into jewelry vary from glass to stone. What they all have in common is I saw beauty in them and wanted to see what I could turn them into.
~My favorite thing to create with currently is glass lampwork beads made by other artists from all over the world.
~My inspiration comes from a sense of curiosity, my need for beauty, and a love of texture and detail.
